Fascinated by bass saxophone, Guillaume Berceau wishes to advocate this instrument, by performing existing music as well as world premieres by M. Urkeza and G. Letouvey.

Biography

Born in South-West of France, Guillaume Berceau obtained two Degrees in Musical Studies (DEM) in saxophone from the Bayonne and Toulouse Conservatories. He is currently a Master’s student in the Conservatory of Paris (CNSMDP) in the class of C. Delangle. He is also following improvisation and teaching skills courses. Guillaume has always been in search of educational and humorous revival. He wishes to share an original repertoire through a theatrical show created with the Laloi Quartet, and also across performances on creations of composers from IRCAM and CNSMDP. Guillaume has been been awarded the First Prize of the UFAM and Gap contests, and the First Prize with Honors of the Bellan competition. In 2014, he received the Fourth Prize of the International Adolphe Sax contest of Dinant.

More information

Bass saxophone is one of those instruments uncommon, fascinating, but unfortunately not used enough. With his strange and disproportionate shape, it stands as an acoustic tool unrivaled which has been explored buy only few composers. That’s why, after having discovered this impressive instrument within several saxophone ensembles, I have tried to master it through the existing repertoire (G. Grisey and J. Pontier), also through other artistic creations such as “Study” from M. Urzeka, a work with electronics from G. Letouvet, and finally across free improvisation. I would deeply like to make discover and particularly share my passion of the bass saxophone around the two creations above, one or two original works (depending on timing), and “Engrenages” of A. Markeas with improvising bass.
