Biography

Mahidol Saxists is a jazz saxophone quartet consisting of four jazz saxophone instructors from the College of Music, Mahidol University, Thailand. The performance of this ensemble includes wide range of jazz repertoire from jazz standards to its own original compositions.

The Pomelo Town is one of Thailand’s leading jazz groups consisting of jazz faculties from the College of Music, Mahidol University, Thailand. The band has recorded a jazz album entitled Chasin’ Saengrawee in 2006, and is scheduled to release a new album entitled “Tales from the Pomelo Town” in this 2012.

This piece is composed of two northern Thai traditional pieces – Noi Jaiya and Selemao. The two pieces are combined together and re-interpreted in an east-meets-west jazz atmosphere. In performing this piece, we seek to bring the spirit of the ancient northern Thai music through the performance of the jazz ensemble.
