More information

flux-mirror is a large-scale work written specifically for saxophonist Benjamin Cold. The focus of the piece is a gradual evolution of range, timbre, and the use of electronics over 30 minutes. A different saxophone is featured in each of the three movements: first alto, then baritone, and finally bass. Electronics become increasingly present, leading to an incorporation of live electronics with Max/MSP software in the third and final movement. In addition to this focus, flux-mirror explores symmetry and reflection as evolving, shifting states. Microtonality, micro and macro time structures, and spatial relationships between performer and electronics are also pursued. One of the three movements, for baritone saxophone and tape, was finished in April 2014 and performed by Ben on April 11th, 2014.
