Biography

Dr. Javier Valerio is widely recognized as one of the pioneers and leading classical saxophonist in Latin America. He is currently the Secretary of the ISC, Founding President of the ALASAX, Founding Director of the Sax Fest Costa Rica Intern., the Costa Rica Intern. Saxophone Competition and founder of the renowned saxophone and percussion quintet, SONSAX.

KENNETH TSE Widely recognized as one of the world’s leading classical saxophonists, he is certainly one of the instrument’s outstanding proponents on any saxophone aficionado’s short list. He burst on the scene in 1996 as the winner of the prestigious New York Artists International Award, which resulted in an acclaimed debut recital at Carnegie Hall, after which he was hailed as “a young virtuoso” by the New York Times.

Cuento #3 is a composition for 3 saxophones, piano and percussion. It has 4 movements with a duration of 19 minutes.

The whole composition is based in a collection of traditional Latin American rhythms that portraits different areas of the region.
Each movement sets out a description of different scenarios from the beautiful sunrise in the caribbean coast to the dancing of the people in their towns using different an asymmetric rhythm that combines the traditional cable of this music.
Even though the composer uses a tonal language, the harmony keeps a combination of a contemporary approach and jazz idioms.
