What is a world saxophone congress?
Every three years in a different city of the world (Ljubljana 2006, Bangkok 2009, St. Andrews 2012), performers, composers, teachers, publishers, manufacturers, professionals, amateurs, etc., come together to bring to life several hundred concerts and premiers.
It is an exceptional opportunity to share with colleagues and friends from your region or from the other side of the world, in the music of the past to the music of today.
The last French congress was organised by Jean-Marie Londeix in 1974 in Bordeaux; the new French saxophone school, under the auspices of Philippe Geiss, will host new composers and performers from the whole world.
What is the SaxOpen project?
It is a unique name for an event dedicated to research (congress) and festivities (festival). This great event will be characterised by the fact that it opens its doors to the public and to all styles, with the honorary presidents being Jean-Marie Londeix and Branford Marsalis.
The main themes are: tradition – research – innovation.
For the first time ever, there will be many activities focusing on the youth, education and broadcasting. Strasbourg and the region surrounding it, will, thanks to a decentralised programme, listen to the music of 2000 participants who are scheduled to perform in symphonic orchestras as well as festive events or unexpected performances. It’s up to you!
In order to spread the word about SaxOpen across all borders, a world saxophone day will be held with many partners from the whole world and its highlights will then be posted on the Internet.
We look forward to seeing you all there!
