From Duke Ellington to Bob Mintzer, the Quatuor Saxopoliss from the CRR of Perpignan will make you travel through space and time, mixing various musical styles.
Biography
Our quartet was created in the saxophone and chamber music of Radek KNOP in the Regional Conservatory of Perpignan in 2011. Through the years, strong friendship links appeared, and lead us to make the formation live beyond the scholar point of view. We enjoyed many times to play in public in the department called “l’Aude” and “les Pyrénées Orientales”.
That’s why we established a program according to our different actual musical affinities.
In December 2013, we could record a CD, discovering this way a studio experience.
Last June, we participated to the Festival and Competition of saxophone groups SAX CITY in Huningue, and won the first prize in the semiprofessional category.
More information
We are four saxophonists from the South of France, coming from the Regional Conservatory of Perpignan. We propose a trip in time, from Duke ELLINGTON to Bob MINTZER, Jaco PASTORIUS. Our objective is to bring together different styles of music to make the public discover the instrument, in several ways, through the formation of the saxophone quartet.
We move toward a greater mobility of the quartet, through the performance.
The program would begin with a modern rag composed and arranged by Christian Daguet to symbolize the beginning of the 20th century. The second piece would be a tribute to Duke Ellington with his most famous themes. We will live North-America a moment, with a piece with Cuban influences, which we rearranged, before we change of continent with “Ulla in Africa” by Heiner Wiberny. We will finally go back to the United States with “The Chicken” by Jaco Pastorius and Fred Ellis in which there is the famous solo from Bob Mintzer. We will end this program with a cover of a local Catalan song by Lluis Llach, arranged especially for this saxophone quartet, by our formation.
