More information
“Modern Thai Virtuoso” is a project by Poongizina Saxophone Quartet with Mr.Teetawat Boonchuailea and Ms.Chudalux Pinan. After years of individual performance experiences of each person, all four members coalesced with an idea of creating an original music which has an unique taste of exotic Thai traditional sound.
Nowadays, there are many saxophone repertoires influenced by asian traditional music, and lately, Thai composer started to compose music for saxophone which have been played internationally. PZSQ have realised that those melodies and materials in those pieces are very new to international saxophonists, and it’s not easy to get the musical idea with folk scale and melodies that players had not been heard before. With helps of two composers, PZSQ come up with the “Modern Thai Virtuoso” project with the purpose to spread and demonstrate exotic Thai language in modern saxophone music.
In this project, the songs which PZSQ and the two composers had worked on based on the concept of modern Thai music with contemporary technique. We collaborate and make sure both songs will come up with fresh and interesting idea which could inspired audience. “Kim-Hăn” is a piece with two movement, both will tell a story of Thai summer music. This piece use material of folk melody and an idea of tradition virtuoso playing and a section of rhythmic with saxophone unique technique. The second song, “Sunrise in the Morning” will bring out the beautiful melody in Thai modern way.
Music which is influenced from folk melody has many tiny details that needed to be understand. Poongizina Saxophone Quartet have realised SAXOPEN is a good opportunity to perform for audience who interested, and we wish this will be beneficial to everyone who curious in Southeast Asian music language.
