The duo composed of the saxophonist William Chien and guitarist Stefan Skrilecz will perform two new compositions by Taiwanese composer Che-Yi Lee and Austrian composer Anselm Schaufler.
Biography
The WIST DUO consists of saxophonist William Chien and guitarist Stefan Skrilecz. This new group formed as a result of a concert tour in 2015, tour throughout several countries, including Austria, France and Taiwan.
Saxophonist William Chien is came from Taiwan, He has performed throughout the United States, Asia and Europe. Including the performances in 16th World Saxophone Congress in Scotland, Navy International Saxophone Symposium, North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference and Taiwan National Recital Hall. Guitarist Stefan Skrilecz received first prices at the national competition “Musik der Jugend” in the categories solo and chamber music. Currently Stefan is teaching at the Conservatory of Graz, where he is also the head of the Department of Plucked Instruments.

Formosa Fantasy for Saxophone and Guitar Duo / Che-Yi Lee

Che-yi LEE is one of the talented composers on the present Taiwan music scene. Since has been engaged in music composition, the accumulation composition work approximately 1,000 works, arrange the music to surpass 3,500 works. Since the start of his professional performance career, the accumulation performances are over 1,700 concert performances. LEE has a tremendous portfolio including commissions by symphony orchestras, chamber music ensembles, dance companies, theater companies, and the Public Television. LEE also involved dozens of audio recordings for production, recording, composition and arrangements. Among those production, there are seven times that nominated in the Golden Melody Award in Taiwan; two times of “ The 10 Outstanding CDs” by the Canton Radio, China. His recent international performances include 2010 Expo 2010 Shanghai China, 2010 Portugal International Puppet Festival, 2010 Macao Arts Festival, 2009 France International Puppet Festival, 2008 Zenith Modern Music Festival in Dutch Hague and 2008 Singapore Modern Festival.

Born 1970 in Vienna. Schaufler studied in composition and violin at the Musikuniversität Graz. In 1990 and 1996, he receives the scholarship to the International Summer courses for New Music in Darmstadt. Other awards includes the 1997 Kulturpreis der Stadt Graz and 1999 Musikförderungspreis of Austria. Since 2000, Schaufler teaches violin, arrangement, composition and music theory, at the Johann Josef Fux Conservatory in Graz. He composes and arranges for the Opera of Graz, styriarte, steirischer herbst, Lutoslawski Festival, styria cantat I-VI, Musikverein Wien and different ensembles like reconsil, die reihe, zeitfluss, the Philharmonic orchestra of Graz, the Rocksymphonic Orchestra, etc.
Schaufler is also the co-founder, violinist and resident arranger/composer for the string Quintet “Die salonfähigen Saitenspringer”, the salonorchestra, Grazer Grammophoniker“, and the Violin-Duo „Duowabohu“.
