Biography

Franziska Brech, flute, Christopher Gugel, saxophone, and composer Robert Roth have all attained state, regional, national, and/or international recognition on their respective instruments. They have collaborated together in varying combinations for many performances throughout the Midwest. This is a project application to premiere a work for saxophone, flute, and piano written by American composer Robert Roth. This combination of instruments will provide the composer with a variety of tonal color options and instrument-specific techniques.

Robert Roth has written numerous pieces that incorporate the saxophone. Robert’s most recent work for saxophone was premiered at the 2014 North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference. His works appeal to audiences and performers alike. Robert frequently melds familiar forms and musical expectations with more modern concepts and techniques. This results in music that pushes musical boundaries while also providing a memorable experience for the audience.

Performing this world premiere is Christopher Gugel, saxophone and Franziska Brech, flute. Each performer has attained recognition at state, regional, national, and/or international events on their respective instruments. The composer is well acquainted with the performing strengths of each instrumentalist, which provides him with the opportunity to write music that is well suited to each instrument.
