The Florida Chamber Saxophonists, composed of Jonathan Helton and Michael Bovenzi, will perform a world premiere of a work by Michael Taylor and a new work (world premiere) by Andrew Cote.
Biography
JONATHAN HELTON is an active solo recitalist and chamber musician appearing in Montreal, Vancouver, Beijing, Singapore, Bangkok, Sydney, London, Paris, Taipei, Chicago, and New York. He is featured on compact discs from Centaur, Elf, Innova, and Mark. He is currently Professor of Saxophone at the University of Florida School of Music. He is a Selmer Artist/Clinician, and a former President of the North American Saxophone Alliance. MICHAEL BOVENZI is Associate Professor of saxophone at the University of North Florida. Dr. Bovenzi is an active soloist of contemporary music. His studio recording of Ed Martin’s Apparitions appears on the compact disc Wavefields. He has recently premiered works at the NASA Biennial Conference in Arizona, and at World Saxophone Congress in Scotland.

The Florida Chamber Saxophonists was founded in 2011 by Jonathan Helton to foster the creation and appreciation of music written for small chamber works with saxophone. Featured performers for this project are Jonathan Helton, Professor of saxophone at the University of Florida, and Michael Bovenzi, Associate Professor of saxophone at the University of North Florida. Their current project includes a world premiere performance of a new work by the award-winning American composer Michael Tyler and a performance of a new work by Andrew Cote whose music is frequently performed worldwide.
JONATHAN HELTON is an active solo recitalist and chamber musician appearing in concerts worldwide, including Montreal, Vancouver, Beijing, Singapore, Bangkok, Sydney, London, Paris, Taipei, Chicago, Washington, DC, and New York. He has been featured on programs of the North American Saxophone Alliance, the World Saxophone Congress, the College Music Society, Wisconsin Composers’ Alliance, Chicago Consortium of Composers, and the New Music Chicago Festival. His performances have been heard on North Carolina Public Radio, on WFMT in Chicago, and in national radio syndication. He is featured on compact discs from Centaur, Elf, Innova, Mark Records, and Music from Northwestern. From 1992 to 1999 Dr. Helton served on the faculty at Northwestern University. He is currently Professor of Saxophone at the University of Florida School of Music. Jonathan Helton is a Selmer Artist/Clinician, and a former President of the North American Saxophone Alliance.
MICHAEL BOVENZI teaches saxophone and serves as an instructor in music theory, computer music applications, woodwind courses and chamber music at the University of North Florida. Dr. Bovenzi is an active soloist of contemporary music and has performed and premiered numerous works at national meetings of the North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA) and the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States (SEAMUS). His studio recording of Ed Martin’s Apparitions appears on the compact disc Wavefields. Recent performances included premiering works at the NASA Biennial Conference in Arizona, and at World Saxophone Congress XVI in St. Andrews Scotland. His renowned teachers have included Debra Richtmeyer, Jonathan Helton, and Joe Lulloff. Dr. Bovenzi holds the Doctorate in Performance and Literature from the University of Illinois, with a minor in music theory. He earned his undergraduate degrees in performance and composition, and a Masters degree in performance from the University of Florida.
