Le Carnaval des Animaux

Website(s) : http://marquisdesaxe.ch/

Saxophone quartet Marquis de Saxe, presents a show around the Carnival of the Animals, by Camille Saint-Saëns, in which new animals were invited by Sandra Korol (texts) and Laurent Estoppey (music) !

Biography

Founded in 1988 the Quartet has known several changes, but its composition has been unchanged for the last 15 years. Besides their quartet-playing, all four of them are teaching at music academies and music scools.
Throughout the years Marquis de Saxe has has won prizes and many composers have written pieces especially for the ensemble.
Starting with the „Goldberg-Variationen“ of J.S. Bach passing by especially staged music theater productions, chambermusic evenings, School performances and finally even playing the world premiere of a concerto for Saxophone Quartet and Orchestra Marquis de Saxe has fathomed the whole range of possibilities of „classical“ music.
In 2012 Marquis won the “Grand Prix Migros Neuchâtel-Fribourg 2012”. That’s what we would like to play at the SAXOPEN 2015

More information

The basis is the fantastic music of Camille Saint-Saëns. Then Sandra Korol wrote a story. In this story there were more anymals, so we asked the swiss saxophonist and composer Laurent Estoppey to write music to impersonate these animals.

Then Julie Delwarde made wonderful costumes, all made of different kinds of hats to impersonate the animals.

Throughout the whole project the theatre directer Sylvianne Tille guided us and together, with this poetic story, the fantastic music and some simple but magical light effects, all these animals come to life and enchant the audience every time. For this production we were awarded the “Grand Prix Migros Neuchâtel-Fribourg 2012
